Watch: Here’s What Neil Agius’ Overnight Swim Looks Like From Malta’s Dark Southwestern Coast
How scary of a scenario is @neil.agius in right now? Well, if you’re not a fan of absolute pitch black deep sea, then absolutely terrifying.
In footage captured by Lovin Malta at 11pm from Wird Fulija overlooking Wied il-Ħallelin, the sheer scale of Agius’ swim – and the unknown darkness that lies ahead of him – can be seen in its full glory.
The scene was so dark and so quiet, that even from the cliffs overlooking the sea, Neil’s team can still be heard, counting down until his next feed as he takes on the islands’ deep southwestern coast.

And if you still can’t wrap your head around just how dark it is out there, the final part of the video actually pans towards where the tiny island of Filfla is… and only shows absolute blackness.
Neil left Mellieħa Bay this morning just after 9am, and has already made incredible pace over the course of Saturday.
By tomorrow, he is expected to swim around Gozo, to come back to the mainland later on his three-day, non-stop, 160-kilometre swim.
