Watch: Kalkara’s Kapuċċini Shed Light On Daily Struggles In Society With A Touching Festive Song
Christmas is a time of togetherness and joy, however, it’s important to remember that some still struggle in silence during this time.
Il-Kapuċċini brought together talented individuals, including the harmonic voices of religious members, Matlene Hatalan Falzon, Jethro Bajada from Jean-Claude Schembri, from various organisations to produce a touching music video.
A beautiful rendition of the traditional “We Three Kings” gives us goosebumps with the mesmerising vocals and of course an equally tranquil melody.
However, what really sends shivers down our spine is the music video accompanying the song, depicting ever-so-real events happening in our day to day lives.
“This year, their unique approach during Advent—a season of hope and preparation—aims to shed light on significant social issues in our society, inviting reflection and action to become Christ’s hands and feet in the world,” the organisation said.
Each Magi represents a challenge faced in Maltese society, like migration and the poverty and solitude that comes along with it, domestic violence and the victim’s suffering in silence and solitude in elderly, especially elderly priests.
“The video draws inspiration from the tradition of the Three Kings, who symbolise humanity coming together despite differences, united in their adoration of Christ.”
Il-Kapuċċini highlight the important contributions of other churches and organisations to combat these hurdles and provide a safe space for people in need all year round, especially during the festive season:
- Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem in Marsa provides shelter and dignity to those on the margins of society.
- The Good Shepherd Sisters in Balzan offer refuge and hope to women escaping domestic violence.
- The sisters at Dar tal-Kleru in Birkirkara ensure elderly priests experience care and companionship.
The video ended with with an emotional depiction of the annual Christmas lunch hosted by the Kapuċċini themselves, where residents of Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem gather together in a moment of love and unity, reminding us once and for all that Christmas should be a joyous time for everyone.
What do you think of the message being conveyed in the music video?
