Watch: Leaked Police Bodycam Footage Shows Moment Which Triggered Ħamrun Street Brawl
Police bodycam footage from the moment right before two police officers were assaulted in Ħamrun has been rapidly spreading across social media platforms.
Initially showed in open court earlier this month, the footage is from the bodycam worn by police officer Clive Mallia and shows a tense exchange between brothers Elton and Kurt Borg as they were issued a parking ticket.
Mallia faced hours of questioning about the interaction in the footage, with the men’s lawyers arguing that he spoke arrogantly to them, provoking them and at one point even mocking the way they were asking him what was happening.

Seconds after the bodycam footage ends, an all-out street brawl erupted in Ħamrun, ending up with one of the officers suffering a fractured nose and the other ending up with scratches on his neck and nose.
Eventually, five people were charged in connection with the right, with prosecutors saying they also intend to prosecute a sixth – the Borg brothers’ father – separately.
All five have so far been denied bail and are currently still being held in custody.
Meanwhile, the other police officer’s bodycam was never recovered from the fight scene, and while he said it fell off in the fight, was returned to him and then lost yet again, the defence lawyers have said that footage is “crucial” to the whole case.
