Watch: Maltese Bakery Sets National Record For Largest Gingerbread Man Weighing 350 Kilos
What’s five metres long and covered in frosting? Well, Malta’s largest gingerbread, of course.
Camilleri Catering, colloquially known as ‘Camilleri tal-Ħelu’, were the masterminds behind this festive endeavour which was unveiled in front of an audience of excited residents in Fgura on 15th December.
The delicious record-breaker boasts a 5.26 metre length and 4.65 width, with a total weight of 350 kilograms consisting of 290kgs worth of dough and 60kg of icing.
The Malta Records, a local organisation that oversees national record-breaking attempts, was in attendance to award the team for their month-long efforts.
“Camilleri Catering have been working on this record for a month,” the organisation said on Facebook, “and throughout this week their efforts intensified, with workers spending 12 hours a day working tirelessly for the past four days.”
The catering company expressed their gratitude to the Fgura Local Council who helped bring their dream to life, allowing them to display their work and bring cheer to visitors of the Fgura Christmas Market.
“I’m truly proud that as a councillor responsible for Culture, we brought home the second national record in Fgura in the span of nine months,” said local council member Charles Bonello, referring to Fgura’s ambitious over 10,00-candle display on Maundy Thursday earlier this year.
However, despite its sheer size and impressive achievement, this gingerbread is a long way from its international competitors, with the current Guinness World Record holder weighing a whopping 651kg made by IKEA staff in Oslo, Norway.
Do you think we have what it takes to beat the World Record?
