Meet the 72-year-old alumnus, Bryan Corlett, freshly graduated from the University of Malta (UoM) who’s here to share his touching life story.

Born in New Zealand, Bryan took up construction, mining and even professional rugby up throughout most of his young adulthood. While living in America for six years, he met his wife, with whom he has happily lived in Malta since 1982.

After landing on our island, Bryan kept in touch with his professional rugby days by doing write-ups for the Malta Rugby Football Union. Bryan didn’t let his growing age sway him from pursuing a higher education and bettering his craft, and so he enrolled in a Journalism course at University.

“I felt a few brain cells had gone to sleep, so I wanted to wake them up somehow,” Bryan jokingly stated in an interview with UoM.

Bryan recounted how despite the obvious age gap between him and fellow students, most of them looked out for him and helped him adapt to the school system, adopting him as a type of grandfather-figure, in a way.

He concluded by extending his gratitude to the lecturers who aided him throughout his studies, but most of all credited his success to his wife and children.

Congratulations to Bryan and all the other graduates!
