WATCH: Morning Gridlock On Rabat-Żebbuġ Bypass Has Drivers Exit Their Car In Frustration
Being stuck in traffic is not the best way to start your day, but most mornings in Malta have become just that. Now that schools nationwide have restarted and rain has made its way to the islands, it’s only bound to get worse… and one video shot this morning is perfect proof of that.
On their way to work just before 9am, two Lovin Malta readers sent in this video shot on the bypass between ?ebbu? and Rabat. While one direction saw the cars whizzing past with no trouble at all, the southbound lane was completely jammed. In fact, at over a minute long, the video shows the entire bypass (which, by definition, is meant to solve the headache of traffic) on a complete gridlock.
While people who regularly use the bypass on their morning commute might not be new to heavy traffic in the area, it seems like today was a particularly bad case
“Everyone was stuck tight,” the person who sent in the video told Lovin Malta. “At one point, we even saw a couple of drivers just exit their cars and stand in traffic trying to see what was wrong. At one point, the whole thing looked like the Gozo Ferry queue during Carnival weekend!”
Beyond the rain that has hit the Maltese islands and stalled traffic for the last 24 hours, a number of other issues built up towards this morning’s gridlock.
As works continue along the Marsa-?amrun bypass and Triq Aldo Moro itself, reports came in this morning of a car that had overturned at the top of a slip road after colliding with a pick-up in ?amrun.
Closer to the location of the video in question, another car had been involved in an accident with a truck in Qormi.
Some commuters reported being stuck in traffic for two whole hours this morning, with many people arriving late to work.
