There was a brief moment of panic during one of this morning’s Risen Christ street runs in the Three Cities as the statue experienced a bit of a tumble.

Thankfully, no one seems to have been badly injured in the incident, and the triumphant procession quickly resumed… although at a much more cautious speed, of course.

A symbol of joy and celebration on the most important day of the Roman Catholic calendar, the tradition sees a group of men run through the streets carrying a massive statue of the Risen Christ before triumphantly lifting it into the air, symbolising Jesus’ resurrection.

Towns like Paola, Bormla, Isla, Mosta and St Julian’s all take part in this annual tradition.

Have you ever seen this tradition in person?
