WATCH: Shocking Moment Classic Sports Car Hurtles Through Gżira Waterfront, Crashing Metres Away From Bystanders
The driver's blood alcohol level was reportedly twice the legal limit
At around 9:10am at Gżira's Triq ix-Xatt, a driver had a narrow escape when he lost control of his 1970s Jensen-Healey sports car, destroying the classic car and causing a three-vehicle crash.
Now, Bad Driving Malta have shared CCTV footage of the moment the car crashed at high speed, smashing into the other cars in a burst of dust and smoke and shocking bystanders having a meal nearby.
The 28-year-old male driver from St Julian's lost control of the car for unknown reasons, leading the car to crash into the road's central strip and crashing into two other cars.
ONE News reported that the driver did not pass a breathalyser test that was given to him following the crash, where his blood alcohol level was found to be double the legal limit. Visibly tearful, he refused medical assistance when it arrived on the scene.
Witnesses on the scene said the man's leg seemed to be injured, as well as having leftover marks on his neck from the seatbelt as a result of the velocity of the crash.
