A violent altercation involving multiple individuals broke out earlier today on Triq Dragunara, St Julian’s, resulting in the arrest of three – one grievously injured.
Three men, a 24-year-old Marsascala resident and a 28 and 27-year-old from Żabbar, were detained following a violent altercation that erupted in St Julian’s earlier today around 4.30am.
According to an eyewitness who shared footage of the incident with Lovin Malta, the situation escalated, to the point where one individual allegedly wielded a broken bottle as a weapon – a fact that the police confirmed.
The video shows a large group of up to eight people engaged in a physical fight, exchanging punches and tackling one another. At one point, an individual was tackled to the ground and struck multiple times.
According to a statement made by the police, after police intervened, the 24-year-old approached an officer in an intimidating manner, prompting him to use a taser gun to subdue the aggressor. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old also assaulted another officer.
The eyewitness reported that at least one person was taken to the hospital by ambulance following the incident, with police reports confirming that despite all involved parties, including the officers, sustaining little to no injuries, the 28-year-old was certified as having grievous injuries.
An investigation into the altercation is currently underway, with the three set to appear in Court in the coming days.
