Watch: Valletta Entrance Shrouded In Darkness After Christmas Tree Unexpectedly Shuts Off

Passersby were met with an odd sight yesterday evening in Valletta, as the recently controversial Christmas tree was hidden amidst pitch black darkness.
NET News were the first to report the power outage, showing footage of Valletta’s entrance shrouded in darkness. Shop fronts and street lights in front of Parliament were seemingly without electricity, including the recently erected Christmas tree, which takes centre stage as the primary light attraction in the area.
The site also reported that soon after the video started garnered reactions online, swift action was taken and two spot lights were placed under the tree to provide a bit of illumination.
This comes following heaps of backlash garnered from the recent instalment of the tree, some even calling it an “ugly and filthy,” with Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency, Jason Micallef, extensively defending the project.
The negative reactions persist with this current event, with many being quick to crack jokes and criticism. One commenter even called out Jamie Cardona to “switch them back on.”
Neither Minister of National Heritage, Owen Bonnici, nor Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency, Jason Micallef have provided a statement on the event at the time of writing.
