Watch: Viral Video Of Anatomy Lab Dance At University Of Malta Leads To Resignation
A controversial video showing a University of Malta professor playing loud musing for his students to dance to during a cadaver procedure at the anatomy laboratory has led to his resignation.
The video, which was filmed last week during a national course of the Italian Society of Forensic Medicine in Malta, has been published by a number of sites including Italian news site Corriere della Sera, has amassed hundreds of thousands of views. As a result, a number of professionals across various faculties condemned the Italian affiliate associate professor and his antics with the Italian trainees, with calls for an official statement from the Italian Ministry of Health and the Italian Medical Association even being made.

Now, the University of Malta has also come out to “strongly condemn the action of visiting medical students behaving in such an appalling manner in the anatomy dissecting room”, saying it had accepted the resignation of the professor. “People who decide to leave their bodies to the Department of Anatomy expect nothing less than the highest level of respect and, anything less, is reprehensible,” a statement by UOM read.
The professor, meanwhile, said “the illegally distributed video was made during a break in an anatomical exercise abroad on bodies donated for the purpose of study & training, and therefore absolutely detached from the medical-legal professional context”.
Reactions to the controversial video have been intense, but also varied. While many condemned the video and the acts of the professor, others pointed out that a procedure on a cadaver is something traumatic that university students might be better equipped to face if it’s treated with a bit of lightness.
What do you make of this footage? Do you think this is a step too far away, or simply an unconventional way to help students deal with something this serious?
