Amid the outrage following the death of an innocent biker due to a haphazardly placed skip, action is being expected, however, residents are still reporting dangerous obstacles with a similar lack of precautions.

Yesterday marked one week since the accident that that claimed the life of Dieter Vink, the biker who collided with an illegally placed skip on the St Paul’s Bay bypass on 11th December.

Ever since, Vink’s family and friends have been very vocal about the involved parties being held accountable and for “justice to be served.” One of the primary advocates for this case is Fleur Marie Cilia Buckett, a fellow seasoned biker and a very close friend of Dieter’s.

Just yesterday, Fleur took to Facebook to address an all too familiar sight that has haunted her and Vink’s family over the past week. A similar hazardous skip caught her attention and fellow residents around the area of Mistra near Xemxija.

“Where is the lighting? This is a full skip with stones and bricks,” Fleur said in a dimly-lit video showing the scene, “No cones? No lighting? The street is already dark as it is.”

Fleur told Lovin Malta that she could not identify any contractor name or number on the container, however, she still opted to inform the police regarding the hazard.

The police informed the resident that “nothing can be done,” however they explained someone would go to the site shortly after.

Within the post she tagged Ċensu Galea, the mayor of St Paul’s Bay. Following suit, commenters also tagged Transport Malta to bring it to the company’s attention too.

According to Fleur, Galea promptly went on site to assess the situation. Following his visit, a light was erected near the skip and LESA Officers were said to have been surveying the site this morning as well.

“It’s still not enough,” she told the newsroom, “Didn’t we learn our lesson?”

At the time of writing, Lovin Malta contacted Infrastructure Malta regarding Dieter’s case and this new skip, however no response was received as of yet.
