Watch: ‘You Know Nothing About Her Life’ – Miss Universe Malta Shares How Her Son Deals With Hate Speech
Miss Universe Malta, Beatrice Njoya, had a touching story to share about her son and his mature approach to hate speech directed at his mum.
On the TVM program, Popolin, a show centred around human interest and social and political issues, Njoya expressed her disappointment in the current climate on social media.
“We have quite a lot of people who’s [mouths] run faster than wisdom, and those people are the crowd of people who are not interested in gathering information before speaking,” she said, “Unfortunately we have kids on social media, on TikTok, and I’m like, ‘How do they feel reading those things about their mum? It’s hurtful.”
Njoya is known for being an advocate for gender equality and mental health and has spoken out multiple times about the difficulties she endured in her life, making her no stranger to criticism and hardship.
She continued her story by saying that despite the hurtful comments she received and her children’s exposure to the negativity, her son had an interesting approach to the matter.
Upon showing her the hate messages he found on videos of her on TikTok, Njoya noted that one particular user was single-handedly battling this negativity in quite a mature manner.
Her son was quick to reveal that he was the one rebutting against the hatred, defending his mother under the guise of a fake account.
“He wrote things like: ‘Listen don’t you think that it’s useless to write what you’re writing about this person that you don’t even know? You don’t know her. You never met her. You know nothing about her life, but your’e writing this kind of comment,” she shared.
“He said: At the end of the day it’s useless because whatever you say will not change the fact that she’s the title holder of Miss Universe Malta.”
Njoya expressed her pride in her child’s manner of speaking, saying that it brought her a feeling of “peace” within herself that such negativity doesn’t easily affect her children.
