Raising funds for Hospice Malta, safeguarding the environment and one, neat way to dispose of used batteries. One Maltese cooperative society has done it all through one brilliant campaign.

How often do we find old, used batteries lying around our office spaces? Well, now you can put them to good use through the ‘Batteries for Hospice’ campaign, launched by GreenPak.

All one needs to do is dump the batteries in one of GreenPak’s nifty battery bins, which you could easily find placed around Malta’s leading supermarkets, stationeries, local councils, and schools.

They’re spread across all of Malta, in fact, you could check out the full list of collection points by clicking here.

The recycling of the batteries will serve to gather funds for Hospice Malta, the voluntary organisation handling Palliative care in the country.

So by dumping your batteries responsibly, you’ll be helping countless persons in need, particularly those suffering from cancer, motor neuron disease, or end-of-life respiratory, cardiac, renal and liver disease. The charitable cause also extends to family support.

Discarding batteries in black bins can potentially damage the environment because they can release harmful substances such as heavy metals. These can potentially contaminate the soil or even surface waters if not only impact our health.

With over two million batteries imported in Malta each year, think about how many of those can be used even after their battery life has waned.
