Donovan was located by police after CCTV footage of the incident helped identify his vehicle, a Mazda Demio, and after police were alerted by an anonymous tip off.

Broken parts of the car were also found at the scene and were used to link the vehicle to the crime. Police were able to find the vehicle inside a garage in Xgħajra.

The death of Degabriele came as a shock to his hometown community, with friends taking to social media to remember the best of the man.

“Rest in peace my friend,” one heartbroken friend said. “You were always such a joker, and it was always a ruckus wherever we went… I’m going to miss you my friend.”

“You didn’t deserve to die like that.”
