No Injuries As Massive Marsa Fire Under Control

Updated with Water Services Corporation statement
No injuries have been reported in the massive Marsa fire that is now under control, according to police.
Lovin Malta is informed that the incident was caused by pipes that caught on fire around Marsa racecourse earlier this afternoon at around 11am.
A large plume of black smoke could be seen across the island, including Valletta, Naxxar and St. Paul’s Bay.
Malta’s Civil Protection Department Unit was called onto the scene and controlled the large fire. No one was harmed.
A spokesperson said it was notified about a fire on-site in Marsa, near the race course where a contractor was implementing one of the sewer network upgrade projects.
Several PVC sewer pipes that were about to be laid in trenches as part of this project burnt down in this fire, they confirmed.
WSC is operating with authorities to determine the cause of the fire and thanked CPD for their rapid response.
