‘No Process Is Being Drawn Up’: Government Responds To Claims Of The Privatisation Of Gozo Channel
The government has responded to allegations made by the opposition claiming that they have information which indicates that the Gozo Channel will be privatised.
“No process is being drawn up as the Speakers of the Opposition said today,” the state said in response.
The Spokesman of the PN for Gozo, Alex Borg, and fellow Nationalist MP Ivan Castillo, made these allegations in a conference earlier today and described them as “worrying” for those who use the service.
They asked numerous questions including whether it is true that plans have been drafted for the government to privatise the Gozo Channel and whether they can verify that plans have been drawn up to change the ports of Ċirkewwa and Mġarr in Gozo.
In response, the state explained that no such processes have been drafted.
“The Government has committed to connectivity, service efficiency and accessibility between Malta and Gozo,” it explained.
“No process is being drawn up as the Speakers of the Opposition said today. This Government, in fact, is committed to continue investing in the company, which has improved the service in recent years.”
“This Government has been and will continue to put the connectivity between the islands on the national agenda as a request was made before the European Commission to give help to the operators of the Fast Ferry so that the service is not only strengthened but serves more functions,” it continued.
