Norwegian Drunk Driver Charged With Murder Of Latvian Woman In Gozo Crash That Left Seven Injured
A 43-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of a woman and injuring seven other people after driving under the influence in Gozo last August.
The man, who is Norwegian and lives in Kerċem, had been involved in a horrific car crash at 1am on the 16th of August, the morning after the festa of Santa Marija.
As he was driving along Triq l-Imġarr in Għajnsielem, he was allegedly driving in a “careless, dangerous and negligent way” according to police, and was involved in a horrific crash with another vehicle.
The incident involved a Daihatsu Terios and a Jago Jeep; the Norwegian man, as well as the late Latvian woman, were in the Jago Jeep.
His driving led to the death of a 41-year-old woman from Swieqi, and grievously injured a 47-year-old American, a 51-year-old German woman and two young boys aged 9 and 14 from Nadur.
He is also accused of slightly injuring a Canadian woman aged 45, a 12-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man from Nadur.
The man is also being accused of driving under the influence, speeding and damaging a third party’s car.
The man responded to these accusations by saying he was not guilty and was given bail under certain conditions given by the court.
