‘Not An Ounce Of Respect!’ Mark Anthony Sammut Calls Out Project Green’s Claim Of Gudja Garden ‘Transformation’

PN Spokesperson for Energy and Enterprise Mark Anthony Sammut is claiming that Project Green’s PR about transforming and opening a youth garden in Gudja is a complete lie.
“The Youth Garden was a project of the Żgħażagħ Local Council, inaugurated by the lamented Silvio Parnis and Mario Calleja on 6th June 2018.”
He is accusing Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and Project Green CEO Steve Ellul of taking credit for opening a garden that was already inaugurated by deceased politician Silvio Parnis and Mario Callejja in 2018.
“All Minister Miriam Dalli and her friend Steve Ellul from the ‘Green’ Project did was that they unveiled the plaque commemorating that opening, planted four trees, and tried to take the credit for themselves.”
“There was not even a thank you to the young people who worked on this project, or to their former colleagues who are no longer with us today.”
Lovin Malta reached out to Project Green for their response to the accusation. They duly replied:
“Since it was last cleaned and benches added in 2018, Ġnien iż-Żgħażagħ had been left in a derelict state. The Gudja Local Council sought the help of Project Green to enhance the garden and make it accessible to everyone, providing residents with a pleasant and suitable place to enjoy.”
“Project Green cleaned the area, planted additional indigenous trees and shrubs and installed new benches made from sustainable material.”
“Unfortunately, the area had become a dumping site. During the regeneration works, Project Green’s workers removed close to 100 tonnes of illegally dumped material, including metal, rocks and other waste.”
“The newly-installed picnic benches are also accessible for wheelchair users whilst high wooden fencing was erected to safeguard children, given that the garden overlooks a main road. A geogrid was installed to stabilise the soil and allow for the pathways to retain their natural effect.”
“In fact, no concrete structures were used. Weeds removed were shredded and reused as much in other parks, to be used as mulch.”
“To ensure that the garden is cared for on a long-term basis, Project Green will also be responsible for the garden’s maintenance.”
