Obstruction Of Justice? Kordin Building Which Killed JeanPaul Sofia Suspiciously Demolished

The Kordin building which collapsed while under construction – killing 20-year-old JeanPaul Sofia last December and injuring five others – has been demolished despite an ongoing magisterial inquiry and police investigation.

Given that these inquiries had not yet reached any conclusions this demolition amounts to destroying evidence.

Nobody has yet been charged in connection with Sofia’s death – and this demolition is likely to hinder the progress of investigations.

Earlier this week parliament was suspended after the Nationalist Party demanded to discuss the opening of a public inquiry into the death of Sofia – and was rejected by the PL.

This demolition is very likely to strengthen calls for a public inquiry into the case, with more focus on who was responsible for ordering the demolition – and who stood to gain from obscuring potential wrongdoings or negligence even more.

Wayne Flask, the activist and newspaper columnist who took the news of this demolition to social media posed several pressing questions.

“Who took care of this demolition, and whose machinery was used? Is this why the independent architect has not yet completed his report? What are police on the scene looking for?” asked Flask.

If the demolition was authorised to prevent clarity about Sofia’s death from coming to light – which could deprive his grieving family and the entire nation of closure and a shot at some sort of  – it could constitute obstruction of justice.

This might add another charge to the list if any are eventually brought against the Kordin developers.

The PM has said that there is, “definitely no need for a public inquiry” into Sofia’s death – which compelled the victim’s mother to respond by standing her ground and reiterating a call for that inquiry to take place.

Do you think there should be an inquiry?
