Occupy Justice Erect Toilet Monument To Commemorate Government ‘Flushing Healthcare Down The Loo’

Occupy Justice have just erected a toilet monument to show “how our government flushed our healthcare down the loo” in response to the recent yet historic outcome of Adrian Delia’s Steward-Vitals case.

“The monument is a representation of the only investment that was made out of all the upgrades that were committed to. Appropriately ironic seeing that this government is intent on flushing Malta’s healthcare, and democracy for that matter, down the proverbial toilet,” the activist organisation explained.

Delia’s case was filed around five years ago and it called for the scrapping of the concession that placed Vitals Global Healthcare, and later Steward Healthcare, in charge of the St Luke’s, Karin Grech and Gozo hospitals.

Earlier this week, judge Francesco Depasquale ordered the annulment of the deal and the return of the three hospitals to the government, with all costs to be borne by Steward Malta since Vitals and Steward failed to achieve their completion milestones.

Such milestones include plans for design, the Barts campus, beds at Karin Grech, the renovation of the Gozo hospital, and St Luke’s beds for hospital tourism.

The judge ruled fraud was committed during three stages of the process – before the contract was signed, when it was being negotiated and when Steward took over.

The ruling of the landmark stirred the nation with many politicians, personalities and NGOs criticising the government for trying to “sell the hospitals”.

“Today, #occupyjustice inaugurated a monument to commemorate the sole contribution to the people of Malta of the Oxley Group, Vitalis/Bluestone, Vitals Global Healthcare and Steward Healthcare in collusion with the Maltese Government and its operatives,” the organisation said.

“May it also serve to remind us of the institutional response to the crimes committed by the same during the last 8 years, and counting, since this stinking and corrupt deal was first investigated and reported on by Daphne Caruana Galizia in March 2015.”
