One Million Shared Rides Later, GoTo Malta Is Leaving The Island For Good
GoTo Malta, a popular electric vehicle sharing app, has announced it is leaving Malta for good on 30th September.
“It’s time for us to say goodbye,” GoTo said today. “We know this really sucks and we’re totally gutted. In the last four years, we have created a strong culture of sharing. Together we travelled to the moon and back 20 times. Thank you for the trust and all the shared rides. Keep on sharing.”
In an email to subscribers, GoTo said that while they are aware the decision to leave Malta “sucks”, they are left with no option due to “several factors”.
“GoTo arrived on the island in 2018 and was a pioneer in the local shared mobility space,” it said. “Malta was a great adventure and during our time here our cars and mopeds covered more than 10,000,000 km, accounting for over 1,000,000 shared rides.”
GoTo Malta launched in 2018, allowing people to rent out electric cars, mopeds and kick-starters via app for as long as they need them. The company said it has over 450 shared vehicles with its trademark lightning bolt symbol spread across the island.
Its announcement that it is leaving Malta comes only a few hours after an underage driver crashed a GoTo car into a wall in Swieqi, leaving a 21-year-old passenger fighting for his life.
The company will remain present in Germany, Israel and Spain.
