Opposition Walks Out Of Parliament After Prime Minister Refuses To Sack Keith Schembri And Konrad Mizzi
The Opposition has walked out of Parliament today after Prime Minister Joseph Muscat refused to dismiss Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri while answering questions by PN deputy leader Robert Arrigo.
Arrigo asked Muscat twice whether he would be getting rid of Mizzi and Schembri following the shocking arrest of a major Maltese businessmen in connection with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Muscat had said that he was willing to put himself under scrutiny following today’s development that saw Yorgen Fenech allegedly attempt to flee Malta on his yacht this morning.
“I have been saying for two years that I will resign, don’t worry, I will go, but not now as the country needs leadership and I will not abdicate my responsibilities,” Muscat said.
However, he has said that it will not be happening today pending the result of further investigations. Muscat went on to say that when the time comes he will be voicing what he has been wanting to say since Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination two years ago.
While Adrian Delia upholds his party’s duties abroad, Arrigo took it upon himself to question Muscat on the potential dismissal of Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi and Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.
The assumptions are being made in light of this morning’s arrest of Yorgen Fenech, who is alleged to have been involved in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia after she broke the news of his involvement with the offshore company in Dubai, 17 Black, which some believe was set up to transfer funds to Mizzi and Schembri.
Muscat went on to say that he would be shouldering responsibility, like he has always done, saying “we all want justice” while advocating the efficiency of the country’s institutions.
Arrigo pushed the Prime Minister for an answer a second time, to which Muscat did not reply directly before Arrigo gave notice that the party would be walking out.
