Over 1,600 Foreign Nurses Working In Malta, Indian Nationals Make Up Largest Majority

There are around 1,627 foreign nurses currently working while registered with the Council of Nurses and Midwives in Malta.

The number was revealed by Health Minister Chris Fearne following a parliamentary question by PN’s Graziella Attard Previ.

Of the 1,627, the largest majority come from Indian, with 1,068 Indian nationals currently registered.

Another 238 are from Pakistan, 114 from the Philippines, 120 from the UK and 27 are from Nigeria, with the rest coming from over 20 different countries. 

In 2014, Malta had around 204 foreign nurses working in Maltese hospitals.

Besides these numbers, it was also revealed that around 185 foreign nurses left Malta between January 2020 and September 2020.
