A fundraising campaign to help support a man who was badly burned in a Gozo boat fire has received over €7,000 donations in just 24 hours.

Karl Pace suffered severe burns after he was forced to evacuate his boat that had caught on fire in Gozo’s Mġarr harbour at 3.30am last Thursday.

Although he escaped with his life, 60% of his body was burned and, according to the gofund me page, doctors estimate it will take him three months to recover.

Thankfully, none of his vital organs were damaged and his face didn’t suffer any burns either but Karl still has a long way to go until he is fully recovered.

In order to help him on his road to recovery, a gofundme page was set up “to ensure his rent and other living costs get paid without worries and struggles.”

“If Karl has touched your life in any way and you would like to support him, please leave what you can, any small amount will help,” the fundraiser read.

And it seems that Karl touched many people as the fundraiser has received a total of €7,337 in donations in 24 hours… less than €3,000 short of its €10,000 target.

“Karl has not asked for this, neither does he know about it. We simply want to help in some way that we can and maybe others who feel that they can will want to help too.”

“We know many people are going through difficult times themselves at the moment and are financially struggling, which of course we respect and understand. If this is you, your thoughts and prayers for Karl’s recovery, along with any well wishes you wish to send him, either written or non-spoken are equally as valued.”

The gofundme page has received a total of 132 generous donations and has been shared 367 times. It won’t be long until it reaches its €10,000 target which means Karl can focus on his recovery and not worry about anything else.
