News that the middleman in Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination could be ready to reveal crucial evidence in exchange for a conditional pardon has hit in the international news, reaching everywhere from America to Cyprus.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat confirmed that an unnamed man, believed to be Melvin Theuma, will be offered a pardon for this and other past crimes should his claims be corroborated in court and result in prosecution.

The Guardian, Reuters, and Euronews have all picked up on the story, with the middleman expected to reveal the mastermind behind the horrific murder.

Muscat has so far confirmed that the middleman was arrested in a separate money-laundering investigation last Thursday, adding that the evidence provided will build “a strong case” against those involved.

The case has intensified over the past few weeks with “a major businessman” named as the main suspect in the assassination, along with a smuggler and a person with links to the gambling world.

Meanwhile, a public inquiry into the assassination has been called.

A presidential pardon for Vince Muscat, one of the men accused with carrying out the attack, was recently floated. However, Muscat seemed reluctant to do so, admitting that he does not really favour dishing them out.

It appears that Muscat is sure that the evidence could finally break the case.
