The parents of two 14-year-olds who were caught spraying graffiti on the Cottonera Bastions have agreed to pay for the damages to restore the historic site.

TVM reported that the parents have reached an agreement with the Restoration Directorate to fork out the damages.

The youths vandalised the bastions, which were built by the Order of St John, in the 17th and 18th centuries as they were being restored, even climbing up the scaffolding to spray graffiti on the upper part of the fortification.

They were caught on site with the spray cans in their hands and immediately owned up to the vandalism.

Work to remove the graffiti will reportedly commence tomorrow and is expected to take a few days.
