The Union of Professional Educators has raised the alarm over a case of alleged threats by parents at the Żebbug primary school in Gozo.

UPE head Graham Sansone said that two mothers stormed the primary school and issued death threats to students and teachers. This allegedly arose due to the parents’ concerns that their children were being bullied on the school van, but UPE supervisors on the van denied that bullying was taking place.

Sansone said the educators were particularly concerned because the two mothers in question are “known to the police for their history of alleged criminal cases”.

“In the wake of this shocking event, the Union of Professional Educators has stepped in to support the school staff,” he said.

“The Union is in contact with educators at Żebbug Primary School and is providing guidance and expert legal advice on how to navigate this troubling situation.”

“The Union and its members have strongly condemned the behaviour exhibited by the parents and are advocating for increased security measures at the school to ensure the safety of both students and staff.”

“Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, but the event has understandably raised concerns among the school community.”

“The Union of Professional Educators insists that the Minister of Education must take immediate action to enhance security at the school, ensuring that such incidents do not reoccur and that a safe learning environment is preserved for all students.”

Sansone said he had advised the educators in question to report the mothers to the police.
