Parliament Suspended As PN’s Request To Speak About A Public Inquiry For Jean Paul Sofia Is Shot Down
Malta’s parliament has been suspended today after the Nationalist Party’s request to speak about a public inquiry into the death of Jean Sofia, was shot down by Labour.
PN Leader Bernard Grech asked the Speaker Anglu Farrugia for to adjourn and discuss opening a public inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia, who died in a building collapse at Kordin , to be heard as a matter of urgency.
His request to adjourn comes as Jean Paul Sofia’s mother stood outside Parliament handing MPs memorial religious cards of her son.
The objection was made by the government Whip Andy Ellul, who affirmed that his party stood in solidarity with Sofia’s mother.
Speaker Anglu Farrugia suspended the parliament to give the ruling.
Sofia, 20, tragically died when a construction site collapsed on 3rd December and it took CPD officials 15 hours to retrieve his body from the rubble.
No one has been charged in connection with his death although police investigations are ongoing.
