Pawlu Curmi ‘Il-Pampalun’, Malta’s Carnival King, Dies Aged 92

Malta has just lost a man synonymous with the country’s carnival celebrations, as Pawlu Curmi ‘Il-Pampalun’ has passed away aged 92.

The man is known for his dedication to carnival celebrations, with many regarding him as Malta’s own king of Carnival. 

Born in 1930 in Valletta, he has been described as a genuine artist who embodied creativity in all areas that he engaged in, including Carnival, music, and dance.

This morning, social media saw an outpouring of tributes, with numerous individuals and even organisations expressing their condolences and reminiscing about their experiences and interactions with Curmi.

Among those wishing condolences, Culture Minister Owen Bonnici paid his respects, saying that Carnival will never be the same again, and MEP David Casa revisited fond memories of celebrations.
