Pelin Kaya Mourned And Remembered Through Prayer At Paola Mosque One Week After Burial
A prayer service for Pelin Kaya took place at the Paola mosque last night, one week after she was laid to rest in Turkey.
Friends, relatives and members of the Turkish community gathered together to recite prayers and verses of the Quran in honour of Kaya, who was killed on her 30th birthday earlier this month.
Elif Ören, a journalist with the Turkish news site Malta Haber, told Lovin Malta that the mourning was held to mark seven days since her burial, in line with Islamic religion.
Following the prayer service, people had dinner in front of the mosque, with food provided by Hasan Kebab and Moos Kebab.
Kaya was run over in Gżira by Jeremie Camilleri while walking home from her 30th birthday party. Camilleri has been charged with her murder and is pleading not guilty, with the compilation of evidence against him set to commence tomorrow.
Lovin Malta sends its heartfelt condolences to Pelin’s family and loved ones during this difficult time
