The friends of murdered Pelin Kaya had strong words for the man accused of murdering her in cold blood at the end of today’s court sitting.

“Burn in hell… hope you will suffer as much as she did!” the friends were heard saying as people left the packed courtrooms today in Valletta.

Pelin’s mother travelled to Malta to attend the emotional sitting, with police officers tearing up in the stands as they recounted how they found the 30-year-old woman bloodied after being thrown into the air after Camilleri allegedly drove into her at 1am. Though they tried to save her on the scene, they were unable to.

The gruesome details, including when Pelin’s boyfriend found out she was dead after calling her phone and seeing it ringing on the pavement of the accident. He had travelled to Malta to celebrate her birthday.

In court, it was revealed that Camilleri told his ex-girlfriend that he’s a “psychopath” and a “proud criminal” and that he “wants to be popular” an hour before running over Kaya in Gżira.

Just after midnight, Camilleri had sent his former partner a voice recording, saying he is a psychopath and a proud criminal and that she will read about him on the news the next day.

Although he deleted this voice message, police managed to recover it.

CCTV footage showed Camilleri leaving his Lija home just under an hour after sending this voice recording and driving to Gżira along the Birkirkara bypass.

As he spotted Kaya on the pavement in front of KFC, he changed the car’s direction and ran right into her, crashing his car into the chicken restaurant.

An RIU officer who arrested Camilleri also testified that the suspect had threatened and offended him and his colleagues and said he is proud to have killed a person because he was going to be famous.

What do you make of the friends’ strong words?
