Peter Agius Announces His Bid For MEP Candidacy For 2024 Elections
PN Spokesperson and former Head of the European Parliament Office in Malta, Peter Agius, has announced his bid for candidacy for the 2024 European Parliament Elections this morning.
“I am ready to work with a new zeal strengthened by the experience and skills I have already acquired,” Agius, a senior EU official, said in an encouraging Facebook post.
Agius explained that he has just started the process of approval of his candidacy for the European Parliament Election in May 2024, meaning that he is trying to attain an MEP seat.
“To reap the fruits of Europe, our country needs a strengthened representation of MEPs who, with conviction and competence, defend and promote the interest of Maltese and Gozitans,” he said.
He added that, through his work, he notices the different needs and ambitions of the people of Malta and Gozo and so he feels qualified to provide the defence and promotion of citizens of the islands in the EU.
“Europe has changed a lot in the last 20 years and it continues to change every day. European taxes and ‘one size fits all’ policies are just some of the challenges we have to face every day so that the Europe we voted for continues to suit us.
He concluded by assuring that he is ready to work with “a new zeal strengthened by the experience and skills” that he’s already acquired, and work so that the EU can adapt more “to us”.
“So that we can enjoy more of its benefits that should reach more Maltese and Gozitans. If you want to be part of this adventure, I invite you to join me.”
Agius was a PN candidate back in 2019 when he received more than 10,000 first preference votes but he wasn’t elected as MEP. Nonetheless, he continued with his political dedication and lobbied for initiatives on consumer protection, EU opportunities for youths and EU funding, food production, Gozo, transport and connectivity.
This week, the PN has garnered local attention through the announcement of a protest led by the leader of the opposition Bernard Grech. It will be held tomorrow against the government’s “theft of our quality of life”.
