Anti-abortion NGO Gift of Life is planning to develop an app to name and shame pharmacies that obey the law and stock the morning-after pill.
A Facebook post appeared on Gift of Life’s page yesterday asking for the public to help find pharmacies that are planning to stock the pill now that it has been licensed for approval.
The post announced that the Gift of Life Malta organisation are building an app to help people “choose their pro-life pharmacy”. Their call asked people to approach their local pharmacists to ask them whether they will be stocking the pill. The information requested included:
- Name of pharmacy
- Town where the pharmacy is located
- Whether it will stock the drug or not
Ironically, this could be good news for anyone who was planning to invest in creating a guide for women looking to buy the morning-after pill, seeing as they now can avoid any awkward moments by going directly to the ones indicated on the app as stocking it. They’ve got their research already done for them. #whoops
But perhaps this is the reason that the post was hastily removed from the Gift of Life Malta’s official page yesterday.
Lovin Malta has contacted Paul Vincenti of Gift of Life Malta for a comment on why the post has been removed. By the time of publication Lovin Malta did not receive a response.
Earlier this year the morning-after pill was legalised in Malta allowing pharmacists to sell it over the counter. You can read more about the lead up to the legalisation here.
