Pictured: Neville Gafa Uploaded A Photo Taken By Person Stalking Daphne Caruana Galizia The Day Before She Was Killed
Controversial OPM coordinator and Keith Schembri confidante Neville Gafa uploaded a photo taken by a person stalking Daphne Caruana Galizia the day before her assassination.
On 15th October, Gafa took to Facebook to share a candid photo of Caruana Galizia with her husband Peter at a garden in Floriana.
“What romantics we are. All they need are biscuits,” he wrote, later identifying her as ’Tal Bidnija’.
Gafa’s upload has been referenced several times throughout the public inquiry into the murder, with Caruana Galizia’s sister, Amanda Mallia telling the inquiry board:
“Is this just a coincidence? I don’t know anymore.”
Gafa told Lovin Malta that he “never took pictures of Daphne Caruana Galizia in any place what so ever”. However, he refused to divulge who sent the photo to him or reply whether he was concerned that the person involved could be connected with the assassination.
We now know that Caruana Galizia was being stalked in the days and months leading up to her assassination. However, this was nothing new for the controversial journalist.
In a series of heartbreaking testimonies during a public inquiry into the murder, Caruana Galizia’s family members have detailed a long history of dehumanisation, intimation, and vilification the journalist suffered.
These include rampant social media and blog posts (oftentimes false) detailing her every movement on the island, no matter how intimate (or incorrect) the information was.
“Kindly note also that I never filed any reports against Ms Caruana Galizia when on several occasions she published pictures of me and my family,” Gafa said.
Gafa is a controversial figure in Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s administration. Beyond serving as an OPM co-ordinator, a mysterious official visit to Libya with militia leaders remains unexplained, despite his alleged role in the medical visas scandal years prior.
Meanwhile, Gafa has been spotted at the home of the Prime Minister’s former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, who is facing serious allegations over his involvement with the assassination. With questions now being raised as to whether he is passing on messages between Schembri and Castille.
“Good friends don’t let each other down,” he previously told Lovin Malta on his numerous Schembri visits.
