Pietà Local Council Praised For Not Chopping Down Trees During Roundabout Works

The mayor of a Maltese town is being praised online for not having the trees situated in a roundabout removed as construction work is done around it.
“I think this is something positive that I’ve seen and wanted to share. Well done to the Pietà Mayor Keith Tanti, the trees near St Lukes hospital roundabout do not seem to be going for a chop. Hats off, bravo,” a Maltese woman posted in the environmental group For Our Trees.
Several other commentators joined in with the praise just days after a public demonstration was organised where people tied themselves to trees in outrage at plans for hundreds of trees to be uprooted.
“Well done! This is how things should be done,” said a second person.

However, others weren’t so impressed with what they saw.
“Isn’t it sad when we have to celebrate when trees are not chopped down? This respect should be the rule and not the exception,” said one person, while another said “look what we’ve been reduced to – grateful to the top for not giving all the trees a chop. Beyond belief.”
One person sarcastically ended with: “Well done to this guy for not running over the old lady crossing the road and well done to that woman for not smacking her kids.”
