Pieta’ Works To Finish ‘By End Of Week’ As New Temporary Lanes Opened Following Commuter Chaos

Malta’s roads authority have issued an update on ongoing roadworks in Pieta’ after social media became flooded with criticism over the sudden closure of major arterial roads Monday morning.
The works are happening on Triq l-Indipendenza between Floriana and Pieta’.
“After resurfacing the lane in the direction to Valletta last year, in the past few weeks the agency has completed necessary works on underground services, including strengthening of a new anti-flooding in these areas and new electricity cables,” Infrastructure Malta said.
“In the coming days, IM will complete this project by strengthening the foundations of the lane in the direction of Tal-Pietà and re-paving it with asphalt.”
“The phase that started today is planned to be finished by the end of this week, while the entire project is planned to be finished before August 11th.”
The authority said works had been pushed back till this week as a number of mass activities had been scheduled over the last few weeks on the Floriana Granaries.
However, since the public made its feedback clear to IM, they’ve since announced temporary lanes will be opened to “reduce the inconvenience”.
Works will also be carried out during night time now, to speed up the process.
Commuters were left angry and sweaty this morning as they made their way to work… only to find one of Malta’s most connected roadways closed off and rerouted.
