PL MP Naomi Cachia Set To Take Charge As Labour’s New Whip
Deputy PL Whip Naomi Cachia will be promoted to Whip of the Labour Party’s parliamentary group, Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced.
Addressing the media this morning, Abela confirmed he intends to nominate Cachia, 29, as Whip to the PL parliamentary group. If they approve the nomination, she will succeed Andy Ellul.
A former president of the Labour Party’s youth wing, Cachia was elected to Parliament for the first time in 2022 under the gender quota mechanism.
Ellul has kept his position as Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue following the reshuffle but he will be reporting to Chris Fearne. With Fearne also nominated as Malta’s next EU Commissioner, Ellul looks well-placed to succeed him as Minister for European Funds, Social Dialogue and Consumer Protection.
Abela said he decided to promote Cachia because he “believes in the talents and life perspectives of youths”.
