PL President Calls Out Mark Camilleri For ‘Sexism’ After ‘Pretty Woman Candidates’ Remark
Labour President Ramona Attard has accused Mark Camilleri of “sexism” after he suggested that the party selects its female political candidates based on their looks.
“There is always an excuse whenever a woman is successful,” Attard wrote.
“When this woman is a Labourite, the excuse grows and even turns into hatred. I believe that the people of Malta are intelligent, which is why I believe they should vote for the candidates that convince them, irrespective of their sex.”
“They also choose the party that doesn’t associate itself with sexists or people who show hatred. These attacks aren’t new to us, we are used to them and they make us stronger. It’s a shame that these attacks put people off participating in public life.”
In a Repubblika podcast yesterday, Camilleri accused the PL of “misogyny” by implying that it selects its female candidates based on their physical appearance.

“Daphne [Caruana Galizia] spoke a lot about misogyny within the Labour Party. For example, why, God bless, are all their female candidates good-looking? (‘Għala, Alla jbierek, dawn il-kontestanti tagħhom kollha nisa sbieħ jagħżluhom?’),” he said.
“This is all inbred misogyny within the PL, which uses women like this and not because it truly believes in feminism and because it wants to give a chance to everyone.”
