PL President: ‘I Want Every Maltese Village Square To Look Like Mosta’s New One’

PL President Ramona Attard has praised the Mosta square pedestrianisation project as it finally nears completion.
“I must say that the Mosta square project has finally materialised in a manner aligned with my vision for every village square in Malta and Gozo, wherever feasible,” Attard said.
The road in front of the Mosta Rotunda is now fully pedestrianized, allowing people to enjoy the view of one of the world’s largest domed churches without having to watch out for traffic.
However, former Mosta mayor Edwin Vassallo, who owns the Best & Less Clothing store, warned that people are unlikely to visit the new piazza unless new parking spaces are set up.
“Beautifying village centres is a good thing but stop ruining parking spaces,” Vassallo said in an interview with Lovin Malta.
“Parking is a real problem. People nowadays spend their free time at business locations that allow them to park. If there’s no parking there’s no life and people simply won’t go there.”
The project was recently in the spotlight after the Mosta local council decided to replace 12 nearby ficus trees with oak trees, a decision it U-turned over following protests.
