In case you hadn’t heard, Malta International Airport is making some changes to its security facilities. The transition has been going smoothly over the past week but there may still be some delays if you’re planning on flying out.

If you’ve got travel plans over the weekend make sure you arrive an hour earlier than you normally would to be sure you’ll catch your flight on time!

MIA Head of Security Patrick Murgo said: “The new Central Screening Area will be a big step forward for the terminal. Making such a move in a fully operational airport is a major undertaking and we will be doing everything possible to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. However, our focus will be on assuring that our security procedures are not compromised during this process. We thus strongly urge passengers to arrive at the terminal at least two hours ahead of their scheduled departure.”

The new security area should be twice as big, with more comprehensive and efficient security measures to ensure the safety of all passengers. But until then best to plan for the worst.

The airport also published this handy guide to how busy the airport is at different times, to help you better plan your journey.
