PN: Abela Hasn’t Published His Own Leadership Campaign Expenses Six Years On
After the Labour Party criticised Alex Borg for failing to keep his promise to publish his leadership campaign expenses within a month, the PN argued that Robert Abela has yet to publish his own PL leadership campaign costs – six years on.
On 11th September, Borg said in a Newsbook interview that he will publish his campaign expenses within a month.
After a month passed without the expenses being published, the PL said that Borg has “failed his first test” and called on the PN leader to publish the finances immediately for the sake of transparency.
The PN pledged to publish Borg’s campaign expenses by the end of the month and accused the PL of hypocrisy.
“The Partit Nazzjonalista cannot fail to note the hypocrisy of the Labour Party and Robert Abela, who is once again attempting to attack Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg, this time over the publication of his leadership campaign expenses, when six years after his own election as Labour Leader, Robert Abela has still not published the expenses of his own campaign,” the PN said.
“The Labour Party has no lessons to give on transparency and accountability. What Robert Abela demands of others, he has never applied to himself.”
“As he has already pledged, Alex Borg will publish the expenses related to his leadership campaign by the end of this month, because he believes that politics should be conducted in an open and responsible manner.”

“The real contrast today is clear: while Alex Borg promises transparency and delivers it, Robert Abela demands it without practising it.”
