PN Accuses Justice Minister Of Abandoning Crisis-Ridden Courts In Gozo
The situation in Gozo’s courts is worsening by the week and has been completely forgotten by Malta’s Justice Ministry, according to the Nationalist Party.
“Since his appointment over a year ago, Justice Minister Edward Zammit still hasn’t addressed the state of Gozo’s courts and the difficulties it’s facing every day,” the PN wrote in a statement.
The Opposition party said that Gozo’s courts don’t have any CCTV cameras for security nor do they have accessible doors.
“These serious shortcomings mean that the public is not being served properly and are a serious obstacle to those who need to use the Gozo Court for justice,” it said.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has previously flagged the fact that the Gozitan court is running on crisis mode.
The party added that under three different Labour Ministers, the building project for a new court in Gozo not only remained unfulfilled but even seems to have been set aside from the government’s plans for Malta’s sister island.
It urged the Justice Minister to focus on revitalising plans to build a new court building in Gozo and end this crisis.
