The Nationalist Party has imposed strict rules for the upcoming leadership election, banning Alex Borg and Adrian Delia from debating each other or even mentioning each other in interviews.

As per the rules set by the PN Electoral Commission, Borg and Delia will only be allowed to accept interviews by PN media once the campaign officially begins.

They will be allowed to accept interviews from other media platforms once the internal due diligence and suitability process is underway, but participation will be subject to the following guidelines. 

1. Interviews on independent media platforms will have to be approved in advance by the Electoral Commission. This incorporates appearances on all non-PN media, as well as opinion pieces.

2. They won’t be allowed to accept interviews on media houses owned by other political parties (ONE) or other media platforms that the Electoral Commission doesn’t approve.

3. The interviews must be separate and cannot take the form of a debate. At no point should the two prospective candidates be interviewed at the same time.

4. The interviews should serve to inform the public about the prospective candidates and their vision for the PN. Neither they, nor the interviewer, should make any reference to the other prospective candidate.

5. Prior to the interview, a declaration must take place that Borg and Delia are merely prospective candidates at this stage, and will only become official candidates once they pass an internal suitability and due diligence exercise.

6. All approved media houses must give both prospective candidates the same opportunity and cannot interview one without also interviewing the other.

7. The interview length must be the same for both candidates, and where possible they should be published on the same day, with a roster or draw to determine which should be published first. Where not possible, they should be published at the next available opportunity “on the same show”.

8. If an independent media house doesn’t observe these rules, they will be disqualified from further opportunities during this campaign

9. Prospective candidates who directly receive interview invitations should immediately inform the party.

Both candidates will be given a minute and a half of airtime on NetNews everyday. They must prepare the clip themselves and send it to Net, and the material must be related to their campaigns.
