PN Leader Blasts ‘Obscene’ State-Sponsored Facebook Ad Attacking His Credibility

PN Leader Adrian Delia has called out state-sponsored Facebook advertising being used for political attacks on the Opposition after sharing a screenshot of a Malta Gov post, that has since been deleted.

“This is unacceptable and obscene. Using taxpayers money to attack the Opposition. That is Labour propaganda which should be paid for by the Labour Party, not by taxpayers. We shall not accept this blatant abuse,” Delia wrote on social media.

Malta Gov, the government’s official Facebook account, focused its post on this year’s budget, writing “the Opposition Leader had understood nothing about equality”.

“He said that in the budget there wasn’t a section on women. But the budget is for women just as much as it is for men – because they are equal,” it read.

The Maltese government has been criticised in the past for spending millions of taxpayers’ money on social media advertising, with critics warning that it was unfairly using public funds to get its message across.

More recently the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life also criticised Ministers for using official channels of communications for partisan affairs.
