PN MP Wants New Air Malta To Contract Part-Time Workers For Summer Months
Nationalist MP Ivan Bartolo has come up with a proposal for the new Air Malta – for the airline to employ part-time workers in the summer months to make up for the extra demand.
Bartolo said he based his proposal on the business model of other airlines who operate in a similar climate as Malta.
“If there are peaks and troughs in the season, it makes more sense to contract workers for that period, such as part-time cabin crew in the summer months, to make up for the extra demand,” he said.
This will allow Air Malta to maintain its full-time staff complement of 375 people, with extra staff hired for the busy summer period and let go when things quiet down.
He originally proposed this during a debate on Popolin with Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, a discussion which was widely praised for the lack of political partisanship on display by both politicians.
Bartolo said he took this stance intentionally to send out a message that there are MPs who are working towards giving politics the credibility, maturity and integrity it deserves.
“People who aren’t blinded know that Malta is at a crossroads for many reasons, and it needs both the government and the Opposition if it is to avoid getting stuck in a corner.”
“I want to be the ambassador of mature politics.”
