Police Clarify Arrest Policy And Dispute Jason Azzopardi’s ‘Morning Free For All’ Theory

The Malta Police Force have clarified that arrests are carried out at any time of the day after an internal message released by lawyer Jason Azzopardi raised a few eyebrows.
The internal message, that was recently sent to all officers, read “it is important that arrests, if any, are carried out in the afternoon”.
“You have to see it to believe it,” he said. “How humiliating. So if you break the law, the police will only arrest you after 12pm but you can do whatever you please before then. That’s how big the human resources crisis in the police force is. Well done Angelo.”

However, a spokesperson for the police force said that this message was completely interpreted out of context.
“The original internal communication sent was related to a specific arrest warrant issued by a Magistrate against an individual who failed to attend a court sitting,” they said.
“The internal communication was intended to inform all officers about this particular arrest warrant with instructions that same is to be executed during the afternoon (on a Saturday), so that the 48-hour maximum arrest period specified by the law does not elapse prior to the next sitting.”
