Police Foil 3am Swieqi Robbery As Woman Catches Thief Breaking Into Her Home
Three would-be robbers were arrested while trying to break into a Swieqi residence in the early hours of the morning.
At around 3:15am, a woman who lives in Triq Żejni, Swieqi called the police after she heard noises from outside, looked out of the window and spotted a man breaking in. She also reported a suspicious vehicle which was parked outside her house with the engine running and some people inside.
Four police officers arrived in time and immediately ordered the two people inside the car to switch off the engine and exit the vehicle. However, the driver reversed into a parked car, prompting police officers to physically try and stop the car from getting away. A sergeant suffered light injuries a he tried to wrestle the door open.
The two people inside the would-be getaway car were arrested while the man sent to rob the house was arrested separately. The men will be charged with attempted robbery, dangerous driving and disobeying police orders. Police inspectors Joseph Terri and Leeroy Balzan Engerer are leading the investigations.
