Police Look Into Student’s Assignment-Related Attack On MCAST Lecturer
MCAST reported one of its students to the police as soon as they were informed he had assaulted a lecturer.
An internal investigation is also underway to assess what disciplinary proceedings should be taken against the student.
MCAST said in a statement that it doesn’t tolerate violence against any member of its community and that the use of violence may result in an immediate suspension and dismissal.
The dispute is believed to have broken out over an assignment-related issue. Footage captured by a student shows the lecturer shouting at a student and ordering him to leave the class and the student refusing to do so.
The lecturer can then be seen slamming on his desk, with the student rebutting by hitting him in the face and swearing at him.
An MCAST spokesperson told Lovin Malta that the college found out about the incident after the management of the particular institute saw the injured lecturer walking out of his classroom.

They immediately filed a police report and the lecturer received treatment at a polyclinic.
In an internal message to students, MCAST also warned them that filming or recording lectures without prior consent violates the college’s code of conduct.
Separate internal disciplinary proceedings will take place with regards the filming, but MCAST stressed that its primary focus remains the actual assault of one of its lecturers.
Should action be taken against the student?
