Police Looking Into Possibility Of Contract Killer Being Hired For Hugo Chetcuti Stabbing
Analysing the CCTV footage surrounding the stabbing of Paceville mogul Hugo Chetcuti has led police investigators to explore the idea of contract killing.
According to an article on Malta Today, police sources say Boris Cmelik (the man being charged with attempted murder) was trying to hide his face with a hat before reaching his victim.
“It is possible the man was ordered to kill Chetcuti by someone else,” said the source.
It is not yet known whether Chetcuti knew his aggressor or whether Cmelik was trying to obscure his face to get close to the businessman. Sources had told Lovin Malta that Cmelik first approached Chetcuti with a hug before planting a knife in his stomach twice.
The motive behind the attack has also not been established
The same source also told Malta Today that one of the witnesses to the attack may have been Cheryle Chetcuti, the entrepreneur’s sister who runs one of his establishments.
Currently pleading not guilty, Cmelik was arraigned in court on Saturday, hours after stabbing Chetcuti outside one of his own Paceville eateries.
